Track Review: Tranquil Sea - 'Home Fires'

Tranquil Sea are an alternative rock band hailing from Liverpool. 'Home Fires' is the latest offering from the four-piece who combine piano-led, driving instrumentals with strong vocal melodies and a good old epic chorus. The band draw influence from artists such as Kings of Leon, The Killers and the electrified version of Mumford & Sons.

'Home Fires' opens with a rolling drum beat before arpeggiated pianos are introduced along with broken guitar chords. The lead vocals are the first thing that jumps out here. Brian Jack Pilkington's control is brilliant and the way his vocals and melodies cut through the dense instrumentation is great. It's in the first chorus where Pilkington really shines and the slight vocal breaks give the song a fluidity against the rigid instrumentation.

The way the gang vocals are introduced in the second verse is a touch of class. They add a new dynamic to Pilkington's vocal and the passion there is plain for all to hear. The highlight of the track has to be the guitar solo. There's not enough of these around these days and Tranquil Sea duly deliver. It's an absolute face melter. The song then builds to the final stages where the band let rip with repetitive vocal lines and massive instrumental breaks.

According to the four-piece, 'Home Fires' is a labour of love and the lyrics centre around staying true to yourself. We can only hope Tranquil Sea stick to that mantra as this is a brilliant track and the band have clearly defined their epic, stadium-filling rock.

New Video: Brad Stank - O.T.D

Brad Stank has shared the new self-directed video for his brilliantly sensual single 'O.T.D'. Stank first came to attention after releasing the relaxed but equally groovy tracks 'Flirting In Space' and 'Daddy Blue'. Stank's solo material is far removed from his work as the drummer in rock 'n' roll reinventors Trudy and the Romance, and with this new jazz-influenced vibe, we can't get enough.

Released through your new favourite indie label Untitled Recs, the video explores the pathetic state of being separated from your lover with both humour and romanticism. The tune itself is beautiful slow-burning track full of thickly textured vocals and guitar licks that hit you right in the feels. The hints of subtle psychedelia played against breezy, jazz-tinged drum grooves are a wonder; making it easy to get lost in the vast soundscapes of Stank's creations.

We're excited to see what happens next with the young Liverpudlian. His unique sound has definitely caught our attention and hopefully will grab yours too. 'O.T.D' is now available on a very limited run of copies as the B-side to a newly remastered version of the majestic 'Daddy Blue'. Get yourself one here before they go.
